”Behind every picture, lies a story.” This statement may be said over-and-over, but carries truth in it. This is a picture of me, taken by a friend as I’m preparing for the funeral of my best friend’s mother. She was such a great woman. Loving, caring, and sensitive wouldn’t even be enough to describe her. Hye Suk Vineyard, was almost like a second mother to me. My best friend, or I, would have never thought, or imagined for her to pass away last week; not so soon, when we’re so young and naive in life. To her son, she personified love through her actions. Describing her as nice, would be an understatement. Growing up, through my eyes, I saw a honorable woman, sacrificing so much for her beloved son. She also cared about the people around her, like me. She sought out that my friend and I were doing okay in this crazy thing called life. She never didn’t have time for anybody, her doors were open and ready to care for anyone. Just like any great gift, people sometimes tend to slowly forget the worth, or significance of a person’s actions and take them for granted. Before they know it, they’ll lose that chance to show that genuine appreciation. Fortunately, my friend has some peace in his heart, knowing that the last words he said to her was, “I love you Mom, and I miss you”, which will what he’ll be saying again and again the rest of his life. Showing love to your mother or family may not be what you want to do, but in honest truth, you’ll never know when it is your last chance. Just like the wind in the breeze, people in your life may come and go, so please take the time to appreciate them, before they are all but just a memory, deep in your heart.
